Sorcerer Mirror No.1 (Pink)

These latest glass artworks are based on traditional sorcerer mirrors, which apparently originated in the 16th century and becoming more popular in the 19th century when ornamental design was at a high and the occult was an interest among many.

These mirrors supposedly held magical powers, often used for scrying and fortune telling where the light would be thrown around the various convex optics. Each one has been cut using methods of traditional 'brilliant cutting' from the Victorian era, a very long process that requires patience and precision.

The type of glass used is 'flash glass', a very expensive coloured glass that has been mouth blown into cylinders, then cut and slumped to form flat sheets. Each piece is varied in colour with small bubbles and striations, which is part of their charm.Once the cuts are polished to a high standard, the glass is then silvered into a perfect mirror.
