‘Labour of Love’
Pistachio – 50cm(⌀)
An original artwork, hand painted in reverse onto glass, with acid etching, 23ct gold, mother of pearl inlays, and enamels. Framed in a solid mango wood frame and ready to hang.
This piece is inspired by the true meaning of the phrase, a ‘Labour of Love’. An act of utter pleasure, purely for the sake of doing the task in hand. In this instance, it is quite literally ‘in hand’, where the pictorial is depicting a hand picking a ripe peach from the branch. Usually, the pleasure would be from eating the peach, however this is not the case…this peach resembles a fucking arse, one in which you can’t resist to touch, and the labour involved in doing so is in the name of LOVE!
The first step was to create the digital painting, a new way of working for Eddy. This allowed him to transfer the pictorial onto multiple pieces of glass, rather than reverse paint each one. Once this step was complete, the glass was acid etched – creating a beautiful stippled effect which allows the gold to enhance the embossed texture. The lettering and line work has been hand painted, using traditional signwriting techniques, which Eddy has mastered over the years. Finally, mother of pearl is applied to the glass where the natural light catches and reflects the most beautiful colours. Each original Labour of Love has their own unique colour-way, including various types of pearl shell to match the aesthetic.
