PUSH THE BOAT OUT
£1,595.00
These latest glass artworks are based on traditional sorcerer mirrors, which apparently originated in the 16th century and becoming more popular in the 19th century when ornamental design was at a high and the occult was an interest among many.
These mirrors supposedly held magical powers, often used for scrying and fortune telling where the light would be thrown around the various convex optics. Each one has been cut using methods of traditional 'brilliant cutting' from the Victorian era, a very long process that requires patience and precision.
This piece is inspired by one of the earliest methods of scrying, which is a form of divination in order to to gain insights or visions. Often interpreted as messages, prophecies, or guidance. It involves focusing on the surface and attempting to perceive patterns, images, or impressions that are believed to reveal hidden truths or future events.
'Push The Boat Out' is a phrase that is used to encourage indulgence or perhaps 'splashing out' on something that you deserve. Like this artwork for example!
Bennett has brilliant cut each convex lens (puntie) onto 1" bevelled glass, with acid etched detailing, poured silver, 23ct gold, enamels, and pink pearl inlays.
Mounted in a bespoke gilded and pinstriped frame.
